Skiba, a refugee from Silesia, was discovered by 1. FC Nuremberg when their "Oldies" team played a Bavarian non-league side in 1949.〔http://www.glubberer.de/s/skiba__heinrich/skiba__heinrich.html, "Glubberer" website (in German)〕 He was signed for the first team but appeared in only two Oberliga Süd matches in the early stages of 1949-50 before moving on to France where he enjoyed a successful, if belated, career, winning his first full cap at 32.
